According to Medical News Today, COVID has affected about 4.2 million people and, as stated by Statistics Canada, the unemployment rate has bumped up to 7.8 per cent, which means that nearly one million Canadians have lost their jobs.

So, after this pandemic, will we go back to how things were or what could come next?

Before I begin let’s be honest, it’s better to lie on your couch, sip coffee and work instead of getting all dressed up, driving all the way to the office where you keep ranting about a car driver in front of you and by the time you reach you’re already having a bad day.

While this seems to be a holiday but it still concerns most of us about returning to work. Some experts worry that the recession would be much worse than in 2009. According to CBC, there could be 2 million jobs at risk in Canada and the economy will be struggling way worse than ever before.

So, are we going to work the way we did?

Well, the answer lies in our history.

This is not the first time we’ve witnessed world crisis. For example, The Great Depression of 1929–1939, which was noted as one of the worst depression experienced worldwide. Where private investment plummeted from $92 billion to $9.9 billion in 1939.

Then how did we overcome that?

“The response is simple: every crisis brings about a new change that most people call new normal”

The depression only disappeared after World War II, which shook demand for services and products. Ironically, this is not only the case with The Depression, but also with Financial Crisis 2009, Spanish flu or Ebola in West Africa.

Looking at our current scenario, the industries are already getting ready for the transition. From having “quarantine greenhouses” for dining in Netherlands to holding virtual convocations.

So were do we stand here?

As Global News wire says, Get ready for the new normal.

Trust me it’s going to be a battlefield and you don’t want to fight without your weapons, so you need to develop new skills as well. People with higher grades or several years of work experience cannot succeed if they do not embrace the changes that are coming.

So here is the answer to the question I stated before. No, we won’t be back to normal. In simplest term, change is the only constant. When you are poured down with plethora of different situations in life what do you do? You accept, learn and move forward. You just don’t go back to what you had before.

Similar is with COVID, you accept the new normal, adopt to the new demands of industries and excel. For your reference I have linked in some articles to give you better understanding of what is coming next :
